You have probably noticed that there is no “category list” template type. When you are in Yootheme, in the first menu level Template, and click on “New Template”, you have several choices but no “category list”.
Although there is a menu type called “List All Categories in an Article Category Tree”, it probably won’t be formatted the way you want.
So, how do you get a list of categories on a Joomla page?
- Create an article in Joomla (Content / Articles / New) with the title “List of categories”.
- Create a menu item with this article using “Single Article”
(Menu / your menu / New / Menu Item Type / Select / Articles / Single Article) and name it “Category list”. - Place it where you want in the menu hierarchy.
- Open Yootheme, navigate to this menu item on the right side, and select “Pages” on the left side.
- If the article is in a category, it won’t appear, and a confusing message (“No articles found”) will be displayed. You can safely ignore it.
- Search for your article (Search articles). Be aware that you may need to type more characters to find it.
- Select your article and create your page using the builder.
- If you use a “Grid” element, you can add an “Item”. In the “Advanced” tab, add “Custom Categories” from the “Dynamic Content” dropdown list.
- Then go to the “Content” tab and map your category fields.
